No. 81 Get Barred from a Pub or Bar

This one is perhaps one of the most easiest things from the book I have done. So much so that I didn’t realise I had completed this off the list until a friend pointed it out. How it happened was this – I went to the opening of a friends bar (which had moved several times in the last couple of days – so I thought I was being quite accommodating). After a drink in there with a friend we said our goodbyes to move on to another pub (as you do when on a night out) we were asked where we were going and then barred after we gave our answer! I would have happily spent other nights in there but I guess my friend has just shot himself in the foot, oh well his loss!

No. 34 Design Your Own Cocktail

In August I thought of the perfect was to celebrate my looming birthday…a cocktail night! Not only would it mean that lots of lovely beverages would be brought over and I’d have a great time, it also meant I would have a chance of completing number 34 on my list. My cocktail consisted of archers, vodka, blue Curacao, orange juice, lemonade and banana liquor, yum yum! And combined with my equally camp cocktail glass and umbrella I think it looks simply handsome!

No. 59 Leave a Job You Hate

One of my first jobs when I left college was at a newspaper. I have always thought that I would like to become a journalist so working in the customer services department of my local newspaper was just the bottom rung on the ladder, or so I thought! I loved most of the people I worked with, I usually had quite a laugh while meeting targets. I had been working there for just over a year and I was accused of lying about something, those who know me can vouch how eternally honest I am so even the idea of becoming a liar nauseated me, so to hear it coming from my boss was vile. I handed my notice in the next day and was soon after given a full-time position at my other part-time job, that’s karma for you!

No. 87 Conquer Your Fear

I have always had a somewhat irrational fear of heights. Ever since I was a little girl I can remember hating being up high and looking down, maybe it was a fear of falling that instilled this phobia. This year I decided to conquer my fear, fortunately a friend had booked in some rock climbing lessons for her 30th and I want along. There were quite a few of us up for the challenge, but I told no one about my fear. To be honest I didn’t want to look like a whimp. My fear of falling was helped by the fact that if I fell on the rock an instructor would catch me! Although at one point I thought he may go through the roof! All in all I think the rock climbing experience definitely helped with my fear, here’s hoping I’m cured!

No. 3 – Win an Award, Trophy or Prize

6th June 2010 – After a nice relaxing weekend in the sun what more could you want on a Sunday morning than a mile swim across open waters with 269 other people.

Nope, not what I had in mind either but a few weeks previous I had signed up to compete in RNLI’s annual Castle to Castle swim. Starting at 12:30 at Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, swimmers were then sent off by none other than East-End hard man Phil Mitchell and the lovely (and still remarkably attractive for her age) Sharon Davies.

A mass parade of RNLI’s life boats, vessels, jet skis and long boards accompanied us swimmers the full distance. Although by the time I was two thirds over the tide turned and I anticipate I had covered an extra half mile as a result. Keen not to give up I pressed on, and finally made it to the other side and was awarded a nice shiny medal as a result!

Three amusing things about the swim:
1. When everyone set off it was like the scene from Titanic
2. Hearing people get picked off behind me, especially this one woman who was screaming with cramp pains – just what you wanna hear!
3. My housemates face when Sharon presented him with a medal!

The Vanishing

This French thriller was a film I really enjoyed. Not because of its demure content but because it was such a great story. The passion of the characters was really felt and it kept me interested in the narrative. One of those films which I would recommend to friends to go and see!

Amadeus

Well what can I say about this film…! I think this film was the first I’d ever watched which came on a doubled sided DVD! I can’t say I really liked it all that much, narrative was incredibly over the top (but then I guess so was Mozart). The musical performances that featured in the film were also a little over done, I guess if you’re a fan of classical music you would probably relish this part the most but as someone who likes their films punchy I couldn’t say I really enjoyed it that much, another film which would have probably been best left off the list!

Aliens

Aliens was the sequel to….Alien! A film that I was particularly surprised about. I have to say I enjoyed the sequel as much as I did the original. Characters were well-developed and I was gripped by the storyline. The bit where the spaceship is on fire and she still managed to escape was the only place where I had to sigh. But apart from that I was actually surprised that I managed to enjoy another film about spaceships and aliens!

The Night of The Hunter

I can imagine that when this film was released that it had the possibility to potentially freak out an audience. I know for a few a moments I was actually scared. The villain in this film is a scary guy, genuinely threatening and I believe this is key to why the film works so well. The children are a bit sickly, but for a film of its time the acting was actually quite good and very realistic. Parts of the story is debateable but I appreciate the film for what it is and without big budgets and CGI it did have me anxious on a few occasions.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s

There were a few things that grated on me with this film, as much as I realise Audrey Hepburn is an icon I did find her mildly irritating! I’m sure she is lovely but her character did knark me off a bit! The other problem I had with this film was her incredibly racist neighbour! Other than that this was a really sweet love story but I did find the melodramatic nature of Holly to be a bit over the top. Would “Fred” seriously have stuck around for that long after realising how psychotic she was?….
